About this video
The Acton Institute pays special tribute to one of its board members and president of Universidad Francisco Marroquín, Giancarlo Ibárgüen S., the recipient of this year’s Guardian of Freedom Award, for his constant focus and steadfast efforts towards the development and achievement of a free society. Representatives of the Cato Institute; the Liberty Fund; the Acton Institute, including its founder and president Reverend Robert A. Sirico; and founder and former president of Universidad Francisco Marroquín, Manuel F. Ayau, salute Ibárgüen, recognizing his remarkable leadership at the university and a life dedicated to the cause of freedom.

Giancarlo Ibárgüen S. is president of Universidad Francisco Marroquín, director of the Centro Henry Hazlitt, and a member of the board of directors of that institution. He is also president of the Centro de Estudios Económico-Sociales (CEES) and member of the Mont Pelerin Society, Philadelphia Society, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and Liberty Fund, Inc. He has published articles on economics and telecommunications in the Argentinean journal Libertas and Great Britain's Telecommunications Policy. Ibárgüen S. holds a BS in electronic engineering from Texas A&M University.
