Interview with Patricio Reyes by Luis Figueroa
February 4, 2009 | 08:20

In this interview hosted by Luis Figueroa, UFM director of public relations, Dr. Patricio Reyes discusses Alzheimer's disease: what it is and how to differentiate it from memory loss that often accompanies the normal aging process. He also explains the importance and benefits of early intervention.
Dr. Reyes examines some of the risk factors that may increase the chances of developing Alzheimer's disease. Although advanced age is the most significant risk factor, genetic predisposition, diabetes, head trauma, and hypertension are also risk factors. According to Reyes, Alzheimer's is one of the leading causes of dementia among older adults. Although there is still no way to prevent Alzheimer's, Reyes discusses some of the lifestyle choices that may reduce the chances of developing the disease.
Research is now focusing on how lifestyle affects the development of Alzheimer’s disease. Reyes explains that nutrition, physical activity, and socializing play important roles in maintaining overall well-being.
