He has been awarded with the Herman Lay Award for Entrepreneurship and was honored as a Young Global leader by the World Economic Forum. During his visit at UFM, Thiel was awarded with the honoris causa doctorate in Business.

During the Graduation Ceremony at Universidad Francisco Marroquín, Peter Thiel, cofounder and former president of PayPal, received an Honorary Doctorate degree in Business for his unequivocal commitment to the cause of freedom and his entrepreneurial success.
Thiel addressed a speech to the graduate students in which he urged them not to be pessimistic but on the other side, to be hopeful and believe they can make a difference in the world.
