 | | Thirty-Fourth Annual Conference, APEE The Thirty-Fourth Annual Conference organized by the Association of Private Enterprise Education (APEE) took place in Guatemala City from April 5 to 7, 2009. This year, Universidad Francisco Marroquín hosted this important event, in which approximately 180 participants—from the United States, Spain, Argentina, Chile, Mexico, Guatemala, Montenegro, and other countries—came together to discuss and exchange ideas on "Institutions, Rule of Law and Prosperity." Hayek Professor of Economic History in the department of economics at University of Missouri – St. Louis. Lawrence H. White visited Universidad Francisco Marroquín from June 22 to 27, 2009.  | | Seminar Unconventional Conflicts Precipitated by Non-State Actors Max Manwaring is an expert in Latin American security affairs. He is a research professor of military strategy at the Strategic Studies Institute (SSI) of the U.S. Army War College (USAWC). Dr. Manwaring offered a five-part seminar at Universidad Francisco Marroquín from June 24 to 26, 2009, which explored war and conflict throughout the world today, the tools used by non-state organizations and the changing nature of their goals.  | | Normal Aging and Alzheimer's Disease Dr. Reyes visited Universidad Francisco Marroquín in February 2009 at the invitation of the School of Medicine to present a series of lectures on Alzheimer's disease. Two of these conferences were open to the public. Dr. Reyes also gave lectures to UFM medical students, caregivers of dementia patients, and the Alzheimer's Association of Guatemala.  | | 25th Anniversary IMCoS Symposium The International Map Collectors Society IMCoS celebrated its 25th International Symposium at Universidad Francisco Marroquín. This was the first time the annual symposium had been held in Latin America. Other countries that have hosted this event include Israel, Spain, Greece, Norway, Italy, Cyprus, Germany, Australia, Japan, and Belgium. The three-day event featured conferences by recognized experts in the fields of cartography, archaeology, geology, and volcanology.
